{"id":6809,"date":"2014-10-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-13T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/svp.matrix-test.com\/article\/benefits-welcome-but-austerity-still-hurting-many\/"},"modified":"2022-11-05T13:15:00","modified_gmt":"2022-11-05T13:15:00","slug":"benefits-welcome-but-austerity-still-hurting-many","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.svp.ie\/news\/benefits-welcome-but-austerity-still-hurting-many\/","title":{"rendered":"Benefits welcome but austerity still hurting many"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" alt=\"\" border=\"2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.svp.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/budget-360.jpg\" style=\"padding:5px;margin-left: 5px;\" \/>Benefits welcome but austerity still hurting many<\/h3>\n<p>The benefits announced in the budget today and the focus on job creation are welcome and contain a number of changes sought by SVP.&nbsp; In particular the increase in Child Benefit, but it doesn&#39;t go anywhere near restoring what has been taken away; the increased investment in Social Housing; part restoration of Christmas bonus and the extension of the &euro;100 water charge allowance for those in receipt of fuel allowance.<\/p>\n<p>SVP also sought the extension of the home improvement scheme to the private rental sector but cannot give today&#39;s announcement an unqualified welcome as it lacks any reference to security of tenure for existing tenants.<\/p>\n<p>Many on low paid will be only marginally better off after today&#39;s budget.<br \/>\nBut&nbsp; many of the benefits will be offset by charges already in place such as water and property taxes.<\/p>\n<p>There remains around half a million unemployed and lone parents who will continue to struggle and will continue to come to SVP for help,<\/p>\n<p>There are also still many who live in isolation who also need support but there is no mention of the restoration of&nbsp; community projects that have been discontinued over recent years.<\/p>\n<p>While this budget has been described by Government as the first step in major a road to recovery SVP believes that it is not a recovery that is fully committed to many who are socially deprived.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The benefits announced in the budget today and the focus on job creation are welcome and contain a number of changes sought by SVP.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":6810,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"_price":"","_stock":"","_tribe_ticket_header":"","_tribe_default_ticket_provider":"","_tribe_ticket_capacity":"0","_ticket_start_date":"","_ticket_end_date":"","_tribe_ticket_show_description":"","_tribe_ticket_show_not_going":false,"_tribe_ticket_use_global_stock":"","_tribe_ticket_global_stock_level":"","_global_stock_mode":"","_global_stock_cap":"","_tribe_rsvp_for_event":"","_tribe_ticket_going_count":"","_tribe_ticket_not_going_count":"","_tribe_tickets_list":"[]","_tribe_ticket_has_attendee_info_fields":false,"footnotes":"","_tec_slr_enabled":"","_tec_slr_layout":""},"categories":[93],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6809","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","cat-region-national","publication-category-social-justice","entry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.7 -
