In September of this year Aidan Crawford, SVP North Regional President along with a group of volunteers travelled to Athens, Lesbos and Kos on a 10-day trip to distribute supplies contained in four 40ft lorries collected through public contributions specifically for the refugee crisis.
They witnessed mothers begging them to take their children because they could not feed them.
They also watched refugees arrive on small, over-packed dinghies following perilous journeys, only to find they had another six-hour trek to a camp at the top of a mountain.
“To see what these people go through is heartbreaking, people were sleeping in hedges, on footpaths and roadsides” said Aidan.
The volunteers handed out water, food, clothes, tents, baby milk and even purchased food. Very young babies we put up in hotels.
They managed to get medical help for the injured. Some of the volunteers worked 18 hours shifts and walked with the people from their nightmare journey.
Aidan would sincerely like to thank everyone who contributed clothes, supplies and donations to help the refugees.
