The return of radio and TV star Hector Ó hEochagáin to his hometown prior to Christmas gave a huge boost in Navan to the 2FM toy appeal in aid of the St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVP).
Hundreds of fans turned up at the Smith’s SuperValu in the local Johnstown Shopping Centre as the popular Meath celebrity set up a live outside broadcast of his “Breakfast With Hector “show. The event was part of a SuperValu promotion running throughout that week.
The chain store had been supporting the nationwide 2FM campaign in aid of the SVP, whereby the supermarket provided the location for gifts to be dropped off to help support families in need.
Hector’s arrival saw a surge of brightly wrapped donations, with over 300 toys handed over on the day.
The festive spirit was enhanced as SuperValu staff handed out free mince pies, taking the chill out of the winter morning, and local schoolchildren sang carols.
The St. Vincent de Paul Society wishes to sincerely thank the public for their generosity in supporting the toy appeal, as well other fund raising events promoted by the SVP in recent times.
