St Columbanus College, Bangor raised £2,585 for SVP this Christmas

The pupils, parents and staff of St Columbanus College, Bangor raised a magnificent £2,585 for the Saint Vincent de Paul’s Christmas family appeal. The funds were raised by organising a non-uniform day and a donation link shared on the College’s ‘ParentPay’.

When presenting the cheque to Saint Vincent de Paul Mrs Flynn paid tribute to the generosity of the school community and stressed that supporting the needs of the wider community was very much in keeping with the ethos of St Columbanus College. On behalf of SVP Youth I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents/guardians, students, family relatives, Prince’s Trust Christmas Enterprise Team along with staff and friends of the College for their unfailing support and generosity.

Sean Johnston, President of St Vincent de Paul in Ballyholme/Donaghadee, paying tribute to the generosity of the pupils, parents and staff of St Columbanus College said: “As a result of the support from the College, St Vincent de Paul has been able to provide help to over 100 families and individuals in the Bangor, Donaghadee and Millisle areas. Without the generous support from the College, Storehouse North Down, local businesses and the wider community, Saint Vincent de Paul would not be able to help so many people on limited incomes. It is heartening to see so many people, particularly young people, contributing to help other people who are in need”.

In addition to this amazing cash donation, the College’s SVP Youth Team ensured that every resident in our neighbouring Ballymaconnell Road Nursing Home received a Christmas gift, together with a beautiful handmade Christmas card created by Year 10 Art class.

Anne McLarnon, Area President of Saint Vincent de Paul in Ards and North Down, also paid tribute to the College for its ongoing support for Saint Vincent de Paul. She said: “Saint Vincent de Paul helps people who are struggling financially with food, gas, electric, heating oil and white goods. This most generous contribution from St Columbanus College makes a vital contribution to our work and I am most grateful for their ongoing support.
